RB CHORALE 2012 SAN DIEGO MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

The RB Chorale, Inc., has been giving Scholarship Awards for 37 years and announces its intention to again offer from FOUR (4) to SIX (6) Scholarship Awards, totaling $10,000, to musically talented San Diego County high school graduating students.  These awards are offered to those planning to attend a college or university to further their musical education in musical performing arts. Any field of musical endeavor is applicable: Voice, String, Wind, Percussion (no combos) or any other solo instrument.

This notice provides information on the selection process for Scholarship Awards to be presented at the Chorale’s June 8th and 9th Concert. The Concert will be held at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts.

Awards of $5,000 will be divided between 2 or 3 participants each of the concert nights. The number of awards will depend upon the number and quality of the scholarship candidates participating.

SELECTION OF THE FINALIST is accomplished by the following four-step process:

1.   Applications are to be received by the RB Chorale, postmarked no later than April 21, 2012. The Chorale Scholarship Committee will review the application and will notify each candidate by mail, of his/her time to appear for audition and interview.

2.   The candidate will audition for the RB Chorale’s Board of Directors in Rancho Bernardo, on Saturday May 12, 2012 starting at 9:30 AM.  (APPLICANTS MUST ATTEND AUDITION ON THE ASSIGNED DAY). No other day or time will be available for auditions). You must limit your musical presentation to FIVE (5) minutes. It would also be to your benefit to memorize your musical presentation.

3.   Following all auditions, each candidate will briefly interview with the Chorale’s Scholarship Committee regarding the information submitted in the application.

4.   A point value system is applied to areas of musical talent, selection of material, showmanship, appearance, length of presentation, memorization and interpretation of the music, scholastic record, financial needs and future plans to further your musical education.

The FOUR (4) to SIX (6) candidates receiving the highest combined points will be notified of their selection as finalists.  From these finalists the Chorale Board will select half to perform and compete on Friday night June 8 and the other half to perform and compete on Saturday night, June 9, 2012.  Amounts awarded to each finalist following their performance in the concert will be determined by audience ballot voting that evening. (THIS IS NOT A CASH AWARD).

NOTE:  The award recipients must be enrolled  in an undergraduate music curriculum at an accredited college or university. Upon receipt of notice of enrollment from the proper school official, the RB Chorale will forward a check, in the amount of the award, to the school’s financial office for credit to the student's account. Scholarship Awards must be used within one year from date awarded.
